Cleaner Production Institute

The Cleaner Production Institute is a non-government and not-for-profit organization registered under Societies Registration Act, XXI of 1860. The overall objective of the institute is to promote and execute environment-development projects in industrial sectors of Pakistan and conduct research on the specialized subjects of environmental technologies. CPI by character is independent, transparent, non-political, non-profit, network based, applied in nature, technology transfer and customization, focused outreach through development projects, operation through panel of consultants and experts.

CPI operates under the Managing Committee, and sector specific Steering Committees. At the operational level CPI is run by the Chief Executive. CPI has established four divisions: Research Division, Development Projects Division, Publication and Training Division, and Finance Division. Development Projects Division of CPI is executing PISD-II and is responsible for programme management, planning, designing, communication, institutional strengthening, training outputs, and management of financial contracts.

The knowledge premise of CPI is based on the following environment-industry projects implemented in Pakistan in the last 10 years.

3. Introduction of Cleaner Production in Textile Sector of Pakistan

8. More than 100 Environmental Impact Assessments for New Projects

CPI is in the process of establishing a common forum for the industry of Pakistan on environment, energy, management and corporate social responsibility. The early focus of CPI for providing environmental and energy services is leather, textile, sugar, paper, and pharmaceutical sectors. However, CPI may provide its services other industrial sectors wherever opportunities arise and are in line with CPI mandate.

In the public sector CPI has targeted to coordinate with Ministry of Environment, Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (PEPA), Provincial Environmental Protection Agencies (EPAs). Other target audiences of CPI are technology vendors and manufacturers, research and education institutions, environmental NGOs, bilateral financing institutions, and multilateral financing institutions. Embassy Of The Kingdom Of The Netherlands

Embassy Of The Kingdom Of The Netherlands (EKN) is supporting the cause of environmental compliance and efficiency of industrial sectors of Pakistan since 1994. EKN has made major interventions in the form of

1. Environmental Technology Program for Industry (1996)
2. Cleaner Production Program for leather sector of Punjab (1996)
3. Cleaner Production Program for leather sector of Karachi (2003)
4. Combined Effluent Treatment Plant Korangi (1998)
5. Energy conservation in Punjab tanneries (2005) 6. Implementation of Cleaner Technologies in Textile Industry of Pakistan Phase 1 & 2 (2000, 2004-7)

All Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association (APTPMA)

All Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association (APTPMA) is a body organizing all textile processing and composite units. APTPMA has collaborated with EKN in implementation of various environmental and cleaner technology initiatives in the past such as Environmental Technology Program for Industry (ETPI 1996-2000), Cleaner Production Program (CPP 2000-2) and Implementation of Cleaner Technology Program for textile Industry (ICTP I & II:2000-2007). Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA)

Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) and Pakistan Society of Sugar Technologists (PSST) are playing their progressive roles in this sector. PSMA is the institutional forum for owners of the sugar mills where as PSST is the joint forum of sugar technologists and mills owners to discuss and share indigenous and international technological developments in the sector. Punjab Industrial Estates Development & Management Company

Punjab Industrial Estates Development & Management Company (PIEDMC) was established by Government of Punjab in 2003 with the objective of public- private partnership for orderly, sustained and rapid industrialization in Punjab. PIE is a section 42 company, incorporated under Companies Ordinance 1984. The Company is owned by the Government of Punjab and is run by a Board of Directors (BOD) comprising of 16 directors. Majority of them are private sector industrialists and the rest are ex-officio members, demonstrating PIE as a successful example of Public-Private Partnership. The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer are from the private sector and the day to day affairs are looked after by the CEO.

PIEDMC has joined hands with CPI in the second phase of PISD for provision of environmental and energy efficiency services of the Program and also to develop sustainable framework for the Quaid-i-Azam and Sunder Industrial Estates. For more information on PIEDMC, please click here.


Korangi Association of Trade and Industry

Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) is the representative body of Korangi Industrial Area which houses more than 4500 industrial, commercial, and service concerns out of which 572 are regular members of KATI.
